Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is on an official visit to Singapore, called on Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this morning. Minister Balakrishnan also hosted dinner for Minister Zarif. Minister Balakrishnan and Minister Zarif reviewed bilateral relations between Singapore and Iran, as well as discussed developments in the Middle East.
Minister Zarif briefed Minister Balakrishnan on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme. Minister Balakrishnan congratulated Minister Zarif on the promulgation and implementation of the JCPOA. He urged Iran to abide by its various international obligations and to continue its cooperation with the international community. Both Ministers agreed that Iran’s full compliance with its international obligations will help ensure its integration with the global community.
As part of his official programme, Minister Zarif also called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob today. He was hosted to lunch by Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.
Minister Zarif will depart Singapore tomorrow morning.
