Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan have written to the Prime Minister of Japan, His Excellency Shinzo Abe, and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, His Excellency Fumio Kishida, respectively to offer their condolences over the earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the earthquake that struck Kumamoto on 14 April 2016.
On behalf of the Government and people of Singapore, I offer our deepest condolences to the people of Japan. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this time.
