The Philippines authorities raised the alert-level for Mayon Volcano in Albay Province from Alert Level 3 (increased tendency to hazardous eruption) to Alert Level 4 (hazardous eruption imminent) on 22 January 2018. The Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has extended the Danger Zone (EDZ) to 8 kilometres from the summit vent. PHIVOLCS has warned the public to be vigilant and refrain from entering this danger zone.
Given the possibility of a major eruption, Singaporeans should defer non-essential travel to the affected areas. Singaporeans currently in Albay Province and nearby regions should monitor these developments closely and avoid Mount Mayon and its vicinity. They are advised to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, monitor the local news closely and heed the instructions of the local authorities.
