In May 2014, Consul-General Mr Jacky Foo spoke to the President, teaching staff and students of UST. In this interactive talk titled "Singapore: An Unexpected Nation to Competing in the First World", CG Foo gave the audience a presentation on Singapore’s ongoing effort to transform the Singapore economy. He highlighted the importance of research and development (R&D), and technological and scientific innovations to the city-state’s continuing effort to develop a knowledge-based and high value-added economy. These will bring about higher productivity growth and higher value-add output. CG emphasized that in the restructuring of the Singapore economy, there are opportunities for Hong Kong-Singapore collaborations.
