Visit by Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong to Hong Kong, 13-18 May 2019
Minster for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong visited Hong Kong at the invitation of the Hong Kong Government under the Sponsored Visitors Programme from 13-18 May 2019. During his visit, Minister Wong met Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Secretary for Development Michael Wong, Financial Secretary Paul Chan, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Patrick Nip, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury James Lau and Secretary for Innovation and Technology Nicholas Yang to reaffirm the strong and multifaceted Singapore-Hong Kong relations and exchange views on regional developments. Minister Wong also called on former Hong Kong Chief Executive and Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Tung Chee-hwa and spoke on Singapore’s urbanisation experience at a forum organised by Our Hong Kong Foundation which is a think-tank headed by Mr Tung.
While in Hong Kong, Minister Wong visited Tanner Hill, Hong Kong’s first non-subsidesied quality housing for senior citizens and the West Kowloon Cultural District to understand about Hong Kong’s approach to urban development. Minister Wong also visited Cyberport, a hub for Hong Kong’s fintech start-ups, to learn about Hong Kong’s policies to accelerate development of its innovation and technology sector. Minister Wong also engaged Singaporeans based in Hong Kong during a networking reception.
