STUDY VISIT OF PHILIPPINE GOVERNORS AND MAYORS, 5 TO 9 NOVEMBER 2012

A delegation of Philippine governors and mayors arrived in Singapore on 5 November 2012 for a five-day study visit on public governance and urban planning.  The delegation comprised the Governor of Tarlac Province, Victor A. Yap; Governor of Guimaras Province, Felipe Hilan A. Nava; Mayor of Santa Rosa City, Arlene B. Arcillas; Mayor of Koronadal City, Peter B. Miguel; and Mayor of Iloilo City, Jed Patrick E. Mabilog.

Held under the auspices of the Singapore Cooperation Programme, the study visit seeks to promote institutional linkages between Singapore and the Philippines through the sharing of experiences and best practices in areas such as public administration, economic development, and township management.  During their stay in Singapore, the delegation received briefings on Singapore’s approach to governance, investment promotion, tourism, urban planning, water management, and e-government.  The delegation also visited local agencies and facilities, such as the Land Transport Authority, Urban Redevelopment Authority, and Marina Barrage to get a first-hand experience of their work.

The governors and mayors were also hosted to dinner on 8 November 2012 by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Sam Tan.  During dinner, Mr Tan shared Singapore’s experiences in water management and green development. They also exchanged views on tourism strategies.
