ASEAN SecGen Meets New Indonesian Foreign Minister
JAKARTA, 10 November 2014 - The Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh, paid a courtesy call on new Indonesian Foreign Minister, H.E. Retno Marsudi on Nov. 6 ahead of the upcoming 25th ASEAN Summit to be held in Myanmar this week. SG Minh briefed the Foreign Minister on the ASEAN community-building process, highlighting the key developments in the political-security, economic and socio-cultural pillars as well as the on-going work to formulate the ASEAN Community's Post-2015 Vision. The Secretary-General also discussed the expected outcomes of the 25th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
Minister Marsudi, who was also preparing for the APEC Summit in Beijing and G-20 Summit in Australia, said that it was important for ASEAN to maintain its centrality and be the driver in the evolving regional architecture. She underlined the importance of increasing ASEAN awareness among ASEAN citizens as well as beyond Southeast Asia. She hoped that with the launching of the ASEAN Communication Master Plan during the upcoming ASEAN Summit, ASEAN would have more coherent and effective messaging to reach out to the wider public. Further, she said that it is important for the ASEAN peoples to understand and appreciate the benefits of the ASEAN Community.
Secretary-General Minh said that he looked forward to the continued leadership and contributions of Indonesia to ASEAN's community-building and integration efforts.
