ASEAN Information Ministers Reaffirm Commitment to Raise ASEAN Awareness
CEBU, 21 March 2016 – The ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) reaffirmed their resolve to work together with ASEAN sectors and bodies to raise ASEAN awareness among ASEAN people and build a sense of community through information and media.
“The mission of AMRI is to communicate, create awareness and heighten consciousness about the ASEAN Community. We should be working together in solidarity of the people of ASEAN to forge ahead with accomplishing that mission,” stressed H.E. Herminio B. Coloma, AMRI Chair and Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Philippines.
The 13th Conference of AMRI also comprised of the 4th Meeting of AMRI Plus Three, 14th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI), 4th Meeting of SOMRI Plus Three and 1st Meeting of SOMRI Plus Japan. Themed “One ASEAN: Connectivity. Community. Opportunity,” the conference took place on14-17 March in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu, Philippines.
Building on the momentum of “ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together,” the Ministers considered and adopted the Strategic Plan for Information and Media 2016-2025. The plan will guide the information sector in supporting other community pillars and sectors with their communication needs, and advocate the policies and initiatives implemented by ASEAN.
In an informal retreat, the AMRI discussed preparations to commemorate the 50th Founding Anniversary of ASEAN in 2017. They enlisted the cooperation of SOMRI and its working groups to work closely with other sectors and ASEAN bodies to ensure the celebrations’ success.
