ASEAN welcomes first Executive Director of AIPR

JAKARTA, 20 October 2017 - Mr. Rezlan I. Jenie started his role as the first Executive Director of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) after an employment agreement signing ceremony at the ASEAN Secretariat on 17 October.

Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN and Chair of the AIPR Governing Council, signed on behalf of the Council. The AIPR Governing Council, Jakarta-based members of the AIPR Advisory Board, Members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and  ASEAN Secretariat officials also attended the ceremony.

The AIPR was launched by the ASEAN Leaders during the 21st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh in November 2012 as an ASEAN institution for research activities on peace, conflict management and conflict resolution.

Mr. Jenie was a career diplomat at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having served in diplomatic posts in New York, France and Portugal.

In her remarks, Ambassador Buensuceso expressed that “Mr. Rezlan’s decades of multilateral and diplomatic experience equip him with the necessary tools to steer AIPR to realize its full potential as the ASEAN institution mandated to conduct research activities on peace and reconciliation.”  She further noted that “while AIPR Governing Council has successfully conducted activities in the past, it looks forward to achieving greater heights with a dedicated Executive Director at the helm.”
