ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Statement on Developments in The Korean Peninsula

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers welcome the recent announcement of plans for the Inter-Korean Summit and the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong Un in the near future, as well as efforts by the Republic of Korea and all concerned parties to reduce tensions and work towards a peaceful resolution of the situation on the Korean Peninsula. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers also note the DPRK’s reported commitment to denuclearisation and its pledge to refrain from further nuclear and missile tests during this period. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers reiterate their support for the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful manner and express hope for a peaceful and amicable resolution to the issue.
