ASEAN, Germany chart out future direction of their partnership
JAKARTA, 20 MARCH 2018 – Reaffirming their strong commitment to further strengthen ASEAN and Germany partnership, both sides today adopted a framework for future cooperation.
The framework entitled Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) for ASEAN-Germany Development Partnership will be implemented for five-years from 2018 to 2022. The document will serve as a basis for both sides to pursue cooperation in areas such as political security, economic, socio-cultural, connectivity, narrowing development gap and sustainable development. Germany has been a long-standing partner and supporter of ASEAN Community building efforts and the adoption of the PCA is expected to enhance the partnership.
At the 2nd ASEAN-Germany Development Partnership Committee Meeting held at the ASEAN Secretariat today, both sides discussed extensively ongoing and planned cooperation programmes and projects in areas such as counter-terrorism, peace and reconciliation, environment and climate change, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), technical vocational education and training (TVET), trade and investment, regional economic integration, and institutional strengthening and capacity development.
The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community Department Hoang Anh Tuan, and Ambassador of Germany to ASEAN Michael Baron von Ungern-Sternberg, and attended by the members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN.
