SIEM REAP, 7 April 2018
 – Senior officials from ASEAN Member States, China and Republic of Korea (ROK) exchanged information and perspectives at the seminar on Migrant Workers’ Contribution to an East Asia Economic Community held on 6-7 April in Siem Reap.

Participants discussed ways to improve situations of vulnerable migrant workers engaged in low income jobs and with lack of social protection. Various issues were discussed such as overseas job opportunities, vocational training, reduction of migration costs, protection of migrant workers from abuses, labour inspections, occupational safety and health, social protection systems and employment services, among others.

Recommendations for actions to promote rights and well-being of migrant workers were developed for the consideration of ASEAN Senior Labour Officials Meeting.

The seminar was an activity to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation towards an East Asia Economic Community as envisioned by the East Asia Vision Group II. It was jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, with the support of ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund. This seminar was attended by over 60 participants from government, academia and private sector.
