ASEAN Shares Updates and Perspectives in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Overcoming Development Gap through Regional and Global Collaborative Actions

Bali, 12 October 2018
 – The ASEAN Leaders’ gathering was held in Bali, Indonesia, in conjunction with the 2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group (IMF-WB).

The ASEAN Leaders’ gathering was co-chaired by President of Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, and Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong. It was also attended by the ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim.

The Leaders expressed their deepest condolences and solidarity with all those affected by the earthquakes and tsunami in Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia.

The Leaders shared efforts and highlighted important achievements made over the past few years in realizing 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Acknowledging challenges remains in climate change, rising inequality, technologies disruptions and more recent trade tensions, the Leaders also exchanged focus of actions and solutions way forward.

The Leaders also expressed commitments to strengthen multilateral collaboration between all Parties to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and overcoming development gaps.

During the day, ASEAN Secretary- General Dato Lim Jock Hoi and Norwegian Minister of International Development Nikolai Astrup also exchanged views on ways to strengthen relations between ASEAN Member States and Norway in economic cooperation, including Blue Economy, climate change, energy, oceans, smart cities and sustainable development of resources.
