ASEAN ROK launch ASEAN Mobility training project photo

JAKARTA/SEOUL, 1 October 2020 – The virtual launching ceremony of “ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for ASEAN Mobility (TEAM) Project” took place on 28 September.

The ceremony was co-organised by the ROK mission to ASEAN, ASEAN Secretariat and ROK Employment and Labor Ministry, and coordinated by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

Around 130 participants from ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, Sectoral Dialogue Partners, Development Partners, as well as international organisations, the private sector and key stakeholders, attended the ceremony.

In his opening remarks Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Kung Phoak highlighted that, “the TEAM project demonstrates collective commitment by ASEAN and its partners to work hand-in-hand in TVET development in ASEAN amid Industry 4.0 challenges and COVID-19 pandemic.’’

‘’This launch is timely in supporting ASEAN’s commitment towards human resources development while complementing ASEAN’s existing endeavors in TVET, particularly the recent establishment of ASEAN TVET Council,” he concluded.

ROK Ambassador Lim Sungnam and ROK Employment and Labor Ministry’s Director General of International Cooperation Bureau NOH Kil Joon, affirmed ROK’s expectation that the TEAM project would contribute to the successful implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and Initiative for ASEAN Integration Work Plan III and also to realise the goal of ROK’s New Southern Policy ‘People, Prosperity, Peace’.

The US$ 6.9 million TEAM project is supported by the ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund for 2020-2022 period. Focused on enhancing ASEAN human capital development and ASEAN Connectivity, the TEAM project focuses on three components: i) Enhancing the Competitiveness of ASEAN Human Resources through Responsive TVET Curriculum Supported by Involvement of Industries and Labour Market Information, ii) ASEAN-ROK TVET Mobility Programme, and iii) Capacity Building for Implementing the National Qualifications Framework and Quality Assurance in TVET in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV). The three components are implemented by prominent bodies of ROK representing each field of expertise namely Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training, Korea University of Technology and Education (KOREA TECH), KCCI and HRD Korea.

Participants discussed and exchanged views on the effective implementation of the project, including on risk mitigation vis-à-vis COVID-19, and promoting synergy between the project and various efforts on TVET development in ASEAN.
