Joint Media Statement of the 24th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers

- The 24th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers (24th M-ATM) was held on 4 February 2021 through video conference hosted by the Kingdom of Cambodia. E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, Kingdom of Cambodia serves as the Chairman, and H.E. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesia, serves as the Vice Chairman. The 24th M-ATM was preceded by the 53rd Meeting of ASEAN National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) and other Senior Official Meetings with Dialogue Partners.
- The Ministers shared their deep concern over the impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak last year as tourism has been one of the hardest hit sectors. In 2020, ASEAN Member States preliminarily reported that compared to the same period in 2019, the tourism sector suffered a loss of approximately 75.8 per centin tourism receipts, international arrivals declined by approximately 80.5 per cent, the rate of hotel room occupancy was at its lowest, with the travel and tour industry also experiencing massive cancellations in 2020.
