ASEAN - Republic of Korea promote closer cooperation on labour and employment

ROK-ASEAN Workshop

JAKARTA, 26 March 2021 – Labour officials and stakeholders from ASEAN Member States and the Republic of Korea (ROK) gathered virtually for the ROK-ASEAN Policy Sharing Workshop in the Employment and Labour Sector. The workshop discussed policy responses and international cooperation strategies to promote employment and livelihoods of workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The establishment of the ROK-ASEAN Consultative Group in the Employment and Labour Sector was also announced in the workshop.

Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio Cultural Community Kung Phoak shared his optimism that the ROK-ASEAN Consultative Group could provide a comprehensive platform to enhance the quality and sustainability of ROK’s multilateral cooperation projects in the region based on the needs of ASEAN Member States.

Mr. Noh Kil-Joon, Director General of International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Employment and Labour of ROK, also expressed his hope that the platform could, among others, discuss responses to the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and Fourth Industrial Revolution, and promote effectiveness of ASEAN-ROK cooperation in this regard.

The Ministry of Employment and Labour of ROK hosted the workshop with the support of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea and ASEAN Secretariat. The Korean delegates joined the workshop in Seoul while the ASEAN delegates participated virtually.
