38th ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management meeting forges stronger regional cooperation

JAKARTA, 10 June 2020 – On 8-10 June, the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) held a series of meetings to update, discuss, and coordinate regional cooperation in disaster management and humanitarian assistance in ASEAN.

The series of meeting started with the Launch of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme 2021-2025, which was previously adopted on 27 November 2020  at the 8thASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management. The launch was followed by the 6th AADMER Partnership Conference where ACDM’s partners pledged their interest to support the implementation and possible collaborations for the new AWP.

The 38th ACDM Meeting on 9 June discussed ACDM Key Deliverables in 2021, review of Fund, ongoing cooperation with Dialogue Partners and UN Agencies, as well as ASEAN’s global engagement in disaster management.

The 1st ACDM Plus China Meeting and 1st ACDM Plus Japan Meeting took place in conjunction with the 38th ACDM Meeting, 15th Meeting of the Joint Task Force to Promote Synergy with Other Relevant Sectoral Bodies on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, and the 14th Meeting of the Governing Board of AHA Centre on 8 and 10 June 2021.

All meetings were conducted virtually, hosted by the ASEAN Secretariat and ACDM Chair – Singapore Civil Defence Force, together with ACDM Vice-Chair, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Thailand.
