JAKARTA, 10 June 2021 – ASEAN and China reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the area of disaster management through the convening of the 1st Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) Plus China today via videoconference.
The meeting, held back-to-back with the 38th Meeting of the ACDM, is a newly established platform for policy dialogue between ASEAN and China to enhance joint collaboration in disaster management and disaster risk reduction to accomplish substantial reduction of disaster losses in lives and in the social, economic and environmental assets in our region.
Both sides endorsed the Terms of Reference for ACDM Plus China and Terms of Reference for the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management Plus China. They further discussed progress of their ongoing cooperation projects, such as the development of ASEAN Disaster Resilience Outlook funded by the ASEAN-China Cooperation Fund. They also exchanged views on future potential collaboration projects to support the AADMER Work Programme 2021-2025 implementation.
The 1st ACDM Plus China Meeting was co-chaired by Eric Yap, Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Chair of the ACDM, and Liu Weimin, Director General of International Cooperation and Rescue, Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China.
