ASEAN ICRC commit to pursue joint collaboration in humanitarian assistance

JAKARTA, 22 June 2021 – Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi and Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), convened to exchange views on a range of issues, via virtual conference on 14 June,

At the meeting, both sides appreciated the progress of cooperation between ASEAN and ICRC. They renewed their commitment in pursuing joint collaboration, particularly in the areas of disaster management, health, post-COVID-19 recovery, and humanitarian assistance.

Both sides also discussed possible areas of cooperation between ASEAN and the ICRC, including those in the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme 2021-2025.

They looked forward to the convening of the 3^rd ASEAN-ICRC Joint Platform on Adaptation to the Evolving ‘Riskscape’ in ASEAN and Beyond, which will be held on 23 and 24 June 2021.
