SEOUL, 11 October 2021 – The ASEAN-Korea Centre and Korea Institute for International and Economic Policy are set to host the ‘ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Roundtable’ tomorrow under the theme ‘’Regional FTAs: ASEAN and Korea Economic Cooperation’’.
Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre Kim Hae-yong noted that “the roundtable is very timely especially in view of the on-going joint efforts between ASEAN and Korea to stabilize the trade environment and strengthen free and open trade in the region.’’
In this respect, he looked forward to the discussions and hopes that “the roundtable will contribute to providing insight on ways for the region to quickly recover from the impacts of COVID19 as well as on strengthening the foundations for a mutually beneficial and future-oriented economic partnership between ASEAN and Korea.”
At the roundtable, experts from both the public and private sectors of ASEAN and Korea will exchange views on ways to facilitate economic recovery and promote trade and investment in the post-COVID-19 period while taking note of the steady economic exchanges between both sides even during the height of the pandemic.
Discussions will also take place on ways to improve utilisation of the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA) and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) once the agreement goes into effect.
Participants will include representatives and experts from the Korea International Trade Association as well as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA); the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Investment; and Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore.
The event will take place online and offline in accordance with social distancing regulations and will be livestreamed through the ASEAN-Korea Centre’s YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/akcsns) at 2pm, (KST) Seoul time, 12 October.
