FM Vivian Balakrishnan hosted Dinner for the 2018 Trilateral Commission Singapore Plenary Session on 23 March 2018 at Clifford Pier, Fullerton Bay Hotel. He spoke about the importance of technological mastery in times of disruptive change. He also shared the Singapore Government’s philosophy and approaches in dealing with these challenges and ended his speech with the story of ASEAN. “So today, ASEAN is a region with tremendous potential. We are a prime investment destination, and if we just keep our wits about us, we are set to become the fourth largest single market in the world by 2030. We have compound annual growth rates of 5% over the last decade, and we can increase that. We have 630 million people, of which 60% of whom are below the age of 35. We are young; we have not yet harvested our demographic dividend. And that’s why we project that we can be the fourth largest economic zone with a combined GDP of US$10 trillion by 2050.” – FM Vivian Balakrishnan. Read more here.
