PM Lee recently wrote an op-ed on the trade frictions between US and China.
“Should a trade war erupt between the two largest economies in the world (not counting the EU), it would do great harm not only to Singapore but the rest of the world, which has long benefitted from a rules-based multilateral trading system. Aside from economic repercussions, fractured bilateral relations would prevent the US and China from cooperating on resolving critical issues such as the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, regional security, and climate change. Ultimately, what is at stake is war and peace, the security and stability of the world. The US, China and the rest of the world have too much at stake.” Read PM Lee Hsien Loong’s full op-ed in Washington Post, April 18, here.
