MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to Brussels, Belgium for the 22nd ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting, 21 January 2019
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan attended and co-chaired the 22nd ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) on 21 January 2019 in Brussels, Belgium. At the AEMM, the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and the EU agreed in principle to upgrade ASEAN-EU relations to a strategic level . The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. On the sidelines of the AEMM, Minister Balakrishnan also met several of his European counterparts.
Minister Balakrishnan will meet Members of the European Parliament tomorrow. They will discuss the strengthening ties between Singapore and the EU, including the ratification of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, EU-Singapore Investment Protection Agreement and EU-Singapore Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
