Singapore’s National Parks Board crushed nine tonnes of ivory, worth S$18 million, on 11 August 2020. The ivory had been seized from various shipments in past years. The destruction of the ivory prevents it from re-entering the market and disrupts the global supply chain of illegally traded ivory. This ivory crushing event demonstrates Singapore’s strong determination and commitment to combat the illegal trade in ivory, including as part of the ASEAN Working Group on CITES and Wildlife Enforcement (AWG-CITES & WE).
