VISIT BY EMERITUS SENIOR MINISTER GOH CHOK TONG TO HYDERABAD, REPUBLIC OF INDIA, 8 SEPTEMBER 2014

Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong met Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu this morning at the latter’s residence in Hyderabad. Chief Minister Naidu briefed ESM Goh’s delegation, which included Minister in the Prime Minister’s office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry S Iswaran and Minister of State for National Development Desmond Lee, on his vision for Andhra Pradesh, which included development in the areas of ports and airports, oil and gas, services, water, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and public infrastructure. Chief Minister Naidu also elaborated on his plans for a new capital city, which will be in the Vijayawada-Guntur region, and invited Singapore to share its experience and contribute to the development process. ESM Goh welcomed Chief Minister Naidu to make an official visit to Singapore at an appropriate time, and also encouraged Chief Minister Naidu to send his officials to Singapore to study our best practices and tap on our network of local and foreign investors.

 

ESM Goh also exchanged views with several top Indian business leaders over lunch on India’s economic outlook and business environment. In the afternoon, ESM Goh will be meeting Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao.

 

Hyderabad was the first leg of ESM Goh’s ongoing visit to India from 7 to 11 September 2014. He will be in New Delhi on 9 and 10 September 2014, and will travel to Madhya Pradesh on 11 September 2014.
