Visit by Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat to India, 1 to 4 October 2019

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat is currently in New Delhi, India, for a bilateral visit. 

 

 

DPM Heng called on the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, today. During the call, DPM Heng and PM Modi reaffirmed the strong, broad-based and future-oriented relationship between Singapore and India, underpinned by frequent high-level exchanges and robust cooperation across various sectors. They also discussed India’s social and economic transformation, how technology has changed the way governments provide services and reach out to citizens, and areas for further collaboration, including infrastructure, FinTech, research and innovation, as well as tourism.

 

 

DPM Heng also called on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, who is in New Delhi for the Indian Economic Summit (IES). DPM Heng and Prime Minister Hasina discussed the deepening of ties between Singapore and Bangladesh, including potential areas for cooperation such as infrastructure development and strengthening connectivity between the two countries. 

 

 

DPM also co-chaired the closing session of the IES and will be returning to Singapore this evening.
