STATEMENT BY MR NATHANIEL KHNG, COUNSELLOR (LEGAL), PERMANENT MISSION OF SINGAPORE TO THE UNITED NATIONS, TO INTRODUCE DRAFT RESOLUTION A/ C.6/77/L.9 ON THE MODEL LAW ON THE USE AND CROSS-BORDER RECOGNITION OF IDENTITY MANAGEMENT AND TRUST SERVICES, UNDER AGENDA ITEM 75, ON THE REPORT OF THE UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE LAW ON THE WORK OF ITS FIFTY-FIFTH SESSION, SIXTH COMMITTEE, 3 NOVEMBER 2022

03 Nov 2022

Mr Chair,

1 I have the honour to introduce, on behalf of the Bureau, draft resolution A/C.6/77/L.9 on the Model Law on the Use and Cross-border Recognition of Identity Management and Trust Services.  Maximilian Gorke of Austria and I had the honour of co-coordinating the informal consultations on this draft resolution.

2 The draft resolution is based on the text of the decision that was adopted by the Commission during its 55th session.  Under the draft resolution’s terms, the General Assembly would request the Secretary-General to publish the Model Law together with an explanatory note and to disseminate it broadly to Governments and other interested bodies, and recommend that all States give favourable consideration to the Model Law when revising or adopting relevant legislation.

3 The draft resolution received broad support from delegations at the informal consultations.  My co-coordinator and I recommend that the Sixth Committee adopt the draft resolution without a vote.

4 Thank you, Mr Chair.
