Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Education Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman made a working visit to Doha, Qatar, from 27 to 29 October 2021.
Minister Maliki met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs His Excellency Dr Khalid Bin Mohamed Al Attiyah. Minister Maliki reaffirmed the excellent relations between Qatar and Singapore. He expressed appreciation for Qatar's strong support for the deployment of the Republic of Singapore Air Force's A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft which had airlifted Afghan evacuees from the Al Udeid Air Base to the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. They also had a wide-ranging discussion on regional developments.
Minister Maliki had separate meetings with Minister of Finance His Excellency Ali Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Education and Higher Education Her Excellency Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, and Minister of Commerce and Industry His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani. They reaffirmed the excellent trade and investment linkages between Singapore and Qatar, and agreed to look into expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Minister Maliki also met the National Security Advisor to the Emir His Excellency Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Misnad. They had a candid exchange of views on developments in the Middle East.
In addition, Minister Maliki met members of the Singapore Business Council in Qatar, where they discussed the potential for greater commercial exchanges between Singapore and Qatar.
Minister Maliki will arrive in Singapore later today.
