Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong visited Hefei and Wuhu in Anhui Province from 13 to 15 September 2012, as part of Singapore's broader engagement of Chinese provinces to seek new opportunities for cooperation. During the trip, he visited the Chery Automobile Company headquartered in Wuhu and Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation's (Keppel T&T)'s Wuhu Sanshan Port. Wuhu Sanshan port is Keppel's first port project along the Yangtze River and bears testimony to the increasingly robust economic ties between Singapore and Anhui. ESM also met with a group of Singapore senior business executives with investment interests in Anhui to understand the prospects and challenges they face in the province.
ESM met with Anhui Party Secretary Zhang Baoshun, Anhui Governor Li Bin and other provincial leaders. Both sides affirmed the growing bilateral relationship between Anhui and Singapore and pledged to strengthen relations on various fronts. ESM and Party Secretary Zhang jointly viewed the exhibition of the Suzhou-Chuzhou (Su-Chu) Industrial Park (SCIP) in Chuzhou, Anhui - the first venture of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development Group Cooperation outside Jiangsu Province.
ESM was accompanied by Ambassador Stanley Loh, SPS Sam Tan, CG Ong Siew Gay and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IE Singapore. MFA press statement on ESM Goh's visit can be found here.
