Mr Yip Wei Kiat is the Trade Representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei.
Mr Yip was Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and Non-Resident Ambassador to Mongolia from February 2015 to August 2019. Prior to his Ambassadorial appointment, he was Director-General of the Northeast Asia Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore from February 2012 to August 2014.
Born in 1969, Mr Yip graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Honours) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom, in 1991 under Singapore Government Scholarship. He obtained a Master of Arts in International Policy Studies from Stanford University, United States of America, under a Fulbright scholarship in 2001.
Mr Yip joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. He served as First Secretary in the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur (1995 to 1998), Counsellor in the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok (2003 to 2005), Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor in the Singapore Embassy in Beijing (2005 to 2007), and Consul-General in the Singapore Consulate-General in Shanghai (2008 to 2012). Mr Yip also served in various capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on issues covering Malaysia, Brunei, Europe and Northeast Asia.
