The “Agreement between Singapore and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu on Economic Partnership” (ASTEP) will come into force on 19 April 2014. This is after Singapore and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu (Chinese Taipei), both members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), have completed their respective legal and administrative procedures to implement ASTEP.
ASTEP was signed on 7 November 2013 in Singapore. It is Chinese Taipei’s first economic partnership agreement with an ASEAN economy. As a comprehensive and high quality agreement covering areas such as trade in goods, trade in services, investment, dispute settlement, e-commerce, government procurement and customs procedures, ASTEP will further enhance the growing economic cooperation between Singapore and Chinese Taipei, and promote deeper bilateral trade and investment flows.
