MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESS STATEMENT: MEETING BETWEEN PRIME MINISTER LEE HSIEN LOONG AND INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY DIRECTOR GENERAL YUKIYA AMANO, 2 AUGUST 2010

 

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mr Yukiya Amano called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this morning. Both leaders discussed the key challenges facing the IAEA. Prime Minister Lee commended the IAEA on its work in the area of nuclear non-proliferation and promoting the safe and secure peaceful use of nuclear energy. Prime Minister Lee also reaffirmed Singapore's strong support for the IAEA and our commitment to strengthen mutual cooperation.

Mr Amano is in Singapore from 1 to 3 August 2010 under MFA's International Organisations Distinguished Visitors Programme (IODVP). This is his first visit to Singapore since taking up office in December 2009.
