MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESS STATEMENT: SINGAPORE'S REPRESENTATION AT THE BURIAL CEREMONY OF THE LATE CROWN PRINCE OF SAUDI ARABIA, HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE SULTAN BIN ABDUL AZIZ AL SAUD

 

Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts and Minister-in-charge for Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim will visit Saudi Arabia from 24 October to 26 October 2011 to represent the Government of the Republic of Singapore at the burial ceremony of the late Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Minister of Defence and Aviation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

Dr Yaacob Ibrahim will be accompanied by Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Special Envoy of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Attached is the text of the condolence letters from President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I extend to Your Majesty my deepest sympathies and condolences on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

The Kingdom has lost a great son who devoted his life in service to the Kingdom and its people. Singapore will remain grateful to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Sultan for his support in promoting closer ties between our countries. His contributions will be warmly remembered.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Singapore, I convey our heartfelt condolences to Your Majesty and the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Sultan spent his entire life serving the Kingdom. His efforts to improve the well-being of the people of the Kingdom will be warmly remembered. His passing is a great loss to the Kingdom.

 

I recall my meetings with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Sultan in Singapore and in Riyadh. His humble disposition made a lasting impression on me. His visit to Singapore in April 2006 enhanced our bilateral relations and cooperation. We will continue to build on His Royal Highness contributions and strengthen relations between our countries.
