MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESS STATEMENT: WORKING VISIT OF THE HEIR APPARENT OF QATAR HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH TAMIM BIN HAMAD AL-THANI TO THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE 8 - 10 NOVEMBER 2010
The Heir Apparent of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Deputy Prime Minister Mr Wong Kan Seng co-chaired the 4th session of the Qatar-Singapore High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) Plenary this afternoon. Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the effectiveness of the HLJC platform to further cooperation between Qatar and Singapore. They also witnessed the signings of 4 Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Singapore in areas such as tourism cooperation, air services, training and cultural programmes.
Sheikh Tamim paid a courtesy call on President S R Nathan at the Istana in the evening. President Nathan and Sheikh Tamim welcomed the strengthening of ties between the two countries. Sheikh Tamim also met separately with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. They reaffirmed the close ties between both countries and discussed subjects of mutual interest.
Earlier in the day, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong hosted a lunch in honour of Sheikh Tamim. Sheikh Tamim will tour Pulau Tekong tomorrow and be briefed on Singapore's National Service Policies by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).
