MFA SPOKESMAN'S COMMENTS: In response to media queries on the return of Singaporean students to Cairo

Singaporean students have begun to return to Cairo to continue their studies at Al-Azhar University. The President of Al-Azhar University, Professor Osama Mohamed Elabd has assured our Embassy in Cairo that Al-Azhar University would ensure the security and well-being of all foreign, including Singaporean, students. The Singapore Embassy in Cairo will continue to work closely with MUIS and Al-Azhar University to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

The general security situation in Egypt has improved but we continue to advise Singaporeans to consider carefully before visiting Egypt as the situation could change quickly. The nationwide curfew from 0000 to 0600 hrs (local time) remains in place. Singaporeans who want to visit Egypt should take the necessary precautions for their personal safety and if they have not already done so, should eRegister immediately at http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/. For their safety, Singaporeans are reminded to be alert, monitor the news closely (especially concerning changes to curfew requirements), observe instructions from local security authorities and avoid areas of public gatherings and disturbances.
