​MFA PRESS STATEMENT: VISIT BY EMERITUS SENIOR MINISTER GOH CHOK TONG TO THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF INDIA, 6 - 14 JANUARY 2012

Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong will visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) from 6 to 11 January 2012 to renew his ties with key Saudi leaders and to meet prominent figures in the Saudi financial services sector. ESM will meet Vice-Speaker of the Shura Council Dr Mohammed Amin Ahmad Jefri, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources HE Er Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi, Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Dr Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah and other Saudi leaders. ESM will also meet Chairman of National Commerce Bank Sheikh Abdullah Salem Bahamdan, Chairman of Riyad Bank Rashed Abdulaziz Al-Rashed and President of Islamic Development Bank Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al-Madani. ESM and the Saudi leaders are expected to discuss regional developments in the wake of the "Arab Spring" and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

 

From KSA, ESM will travel to Hyderabad in the Indian State of Andra Pradesh where he will deliver the keynote address at the Annual Partnership Summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on 12 January 2012. This is the third time ESM has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the CII Partnership Summit, which is one of CII's premier events attended by political leaders, industrialists and businessmen from India and other countries.

 

ESM will visit Mumbai in the Indian State of Maharashtra from 12-14 January 2012 where he will meet the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. ESM will also meet prominent personalities in financial services sector in Mumbai such as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) U K Sinha to discuss developments in India's financial hub. ESM's visits to Hyderabad and Mumbai are part of our efforts to enhance Singapore's linkages with these key Indian States.

 

ESM will be accompanied by Member of Parliament Mr Vikram Nair and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and International Enterprise Singapore.
