MFA Press Statement: Singapore’s response to the bombings in Cairo, 24 January 2014

In response to media queries on the bomb attacks in Cairo on 24 January 2014, the MFA Spokesman said:

"Singapore strongly condemns the bombing of the central Cairo police headquarters and bomb blasts in other parts of Cairo.  We convey our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and support the Egyptian government’s efforts to bring the perpetrators of these acts of terrorism to justice.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Embassy in Cairo are monitoring the developments in Egypt closely.  Our Embassy is in touch with Singaporeans in Egypt and there are no reports of affected Singaporeans thus far.  MFA’s travel notice of 22 January 2014 advising Singaporeans to defer all non-essential travel to Egypt remains valid.
