The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Guy Ryder, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress, Mr Chan Chun Sing, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this afternoon.

2        The Director-General is in Singapore to attend the International Forum on Tripartism (IFT), which is jointly organised by the Ministry of Manpower, the National Trades Union Congress and the Singapore National Employers Federation, together known as the tripartite partners. The IFT, held on 26 October 2015, serves to commemorate both Singapore’s 50 years of independence and its 50th year as a member state of the ILO.

3        This is the first time that an ILO Director-General has visited Singapore, and Mr Ryder’s presence is an indication of how close the ties between Singapore and the ILO have become.

4        During their meeting, the Prime Minister and the Director-General reaffirmed the close and longstanding strategic partnership between Singapore and the ILO. They had a fruitful exchange on international developments relating to the world of work.
