Travel Advisory for the Maldives [6 February 2018]

06 Feb 2018

The Maldives Government has declared a state of emergency for 15 days effective from 5 February 2018. Security forces have been deployed in MalĂ© due to ongoing political developments. In view of the unstable situation in the Maldives, Singaporeans are advised to defer all non-essential travels to the Maldives until the situation stabilises. Singapore has no diplomatic representation in the Maldives which constrains our ability to extend consular assistance in an emergency.

If you are already in the Maldives, you are strongly advised to exercise vigilance and take all necessary precautions for your personal safety, including to monitor the news closely and heed the instructions of the local authorities. You should avoid protests and large public gatherings. You should also purchase comprehensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.

Singaporeans are strongly encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ and to stay in touch with your family and friends so that they know you are safe. Those in need of consular assistance may contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duty Office at:
