Notice regarding Hurricane Irma Update 6 September 2017

Hurricane Irma was recently upgraded to a Category 5 storm.  According to the National Hurricane Center, Irma will bring life-threatening wind, storm surge, and rainfall hazards to the northeastern Caribbean later today, 5 September, and the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico beginning tomorrow, 6 September.  The chance of direct impacts from Irma later this weekend is increasing in the Florida Keys and portions of the Florida Peninsular.


A state of emergency has been declared in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma.


Singaporeans travelling to or residing in the affected States are advised to take the necessary precautions for their personal safety, including heeding the instructions of the local authorities, and monitoring local news.  Singaporeans are also encouraged to keep your family and friends updated on your welfare.  For the latest information on the storm, please visit the National Weather Service website at http://www.weather.gov and the National Hurricane Center website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov.


The Singapore Consulate-General in Miami will be closed on 7 and 8 September 2017.
