Staff from the Singapore Consulate in Medan visited 3 villages, Kuta Rakyat, Sigarang Garang and Sukanalu, all within the 3 km radius of Mt Sinabung in Karo District, North Sumatra on Saturday, 21 June 2014. The visit was arranged by a fellow Singaporean, Mr Jerry Gan, General Manager, Mikie Holiday Resort. During the visit Consul Mark Low distributed 1,000,000 IDR worth of roofing nails to the 3 villages to help them repair their zinc roofs. Our staff also visited a holding centre for displaced villagers at ‘KWK Church in Berastagi. The centre provides temporary shelter to some 600 displaced villagers.
The visit to the villages and our contribution to the re-building process are part of the Singapore Consulate in Medan’s aim to reach out to the less fortunate in the community that we live and serve in.
